Varun Sharma has entertained us in films like Fukrey, Fukrey Returns, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Dilwale, Chhichhore, and Roohi. The actor’s charming personality and prolific acting have floored the audiences. And now, after giving back-to-back hits in Bollywood, Varun is all set to make his digital debut with Sony Liv’s Chutzpah.
In an exclusive conversation with Ruchita Mishra (BollyUKMedia), Varun Sharma spoke at length about his upcoming show Chutzpah, cyberbullying, and how many hours he spends on social media.
Excerpts from the interview:
The response to Chutzpah’s trailer has been tremendous? Did you expect it?
Well, I am thankful to each one. The trailer is good, and the show is about to release. I am looking forward to the response the series gets. Chutzpah is something different and fun.
Is the storyline inspired by the famous Bios locker room case that made headlines last year?
It is different. I would say there are 4-5 different stories weaved in together. The Bois locker room is a part of the storyline. The series is not based on bois locker room entirely. There are other stories like long-distance relationships, online gaming and also several other things. The best part is everything in the series is shown most humorously and not a dark, family-friendly show, all those things. It sheds light on several things and gives a jolt.
How did you unwind your time during the lockdown?
Initially, I invested a lot of time on the phone, and I used to wake up and look at the phone, and night would endlessly scroll on the phone. However, soon I decided to cut off, and now I don’t use the phone for an hour after I wake up and a little from all this and spend most of my time with my family. All I can say, the lockdown has been great spent a lot of time with my mother. I made all the house arrangements with my mom; it was therapeutic.
What is your take on cyberbullying and online trolls?
Cyberbullying is a wrong thing; because of this, people are scared right now. Trolling affects people; everyone reads everything, and that takes a toll on their mental health, its important for people to take healthy criticism. And if something is affecting you, talk to people or chat with people or your loved ones.
With the growth in OTT, do you feel the charm of cinema will fade away once the covid-19 situation eases?
The magic of cinema will never go. That is what we have grown up with. Both the mediums have their charm. Needless to say, cinema will take time to grow once everything eases, but it will never lose its charm. For instance, once can enjoy an outing with friends and watch fil on the weekend, have popcorn and enjoy the film on the big screen While on OTT I can wear boxers and laze around and watch a film.
What do you miss the most from the pre-pandemic time?
I miss eating street food.
