Anurag Basu is no stranger to complex storytelling, but Metro…in Dino might just be his most
personal, emotionally intelligent film yet. Building on the legacy of Life in a… Metro and Ludo,
Basu once again returns to what he does best: telling multiple stories that are singular in their
emotion, yet collective in their impact.
The film follows the lives of eight very different individuals—portrayed with striking authenticity
by Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan,
Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, and Neena Gupta. They fall in love, mess up, apologise, and
start again—sometimes with the same person, sometimes with someone new, sometimes just
with themselves.
What’s exceptional about Basu’s narrative is how universal it feels. These characters might live
in Indian cities, but their emotional dilemmas are those of the world: Should I text them first?
Can love survive betrayal? What happens when we grow older but lonelier? These aren’t just
questions—they’re confessions we’ve all whispered at some point.
And then there’s the music—Pritam at his peak, crafting songs that don’t feel like breaks from
the narrative, but rather its natural heartbeat. Add to that a gorgeous urban palette, ambient
soundscapes, and poetic visual metaphors, and you have a film that’s layered, immersive, and
wonderfully human.
