Bolly UK Media: We’ve heard a bit at the press conference about the amazing journey and bonding between the cast. Working for two years on such a monumental project must create a strong connection among everyone involved. So, I have two questions. First, how does it feel to bring a film of Indian origin, rooted in our culture, to a global audience unfamiliar with it? What do you feel they’ll gain from experiencing these unique cultural elements? For example, while many might have seen things like Game of Thrones, your film presents its own clan and distinctive Indian elements. How does it feel to share that story with the world?
And the second question is about the technological aspects, especially the VFX. Do you feel that the CGI enhances an actor’s performance, or does it present new challenges?
Suriya: When you bring an Indian film to a global audience, especially one so deeply connected to our culture, the cultural aspect becomes incredibly important. In this story, the “daes” are fire, water, and blood, which shapes the characters’ choices, actions, body language, beliefs, and ambitions. It’s an immersive way to showcase not just a story but a way of life from 700 years ago. I think the audience, especially those unfamiliar with this culture, will find it refreshing—a completely new experience with our history and traditions woven in.
About the CGI, I’d say we’re very fortunate to have incredible talent here in India, in places like Chennai, Bangalore, and Mumbai. Most of the VFX work was done in-house, which is something I’m not sure we could have achieved 10 or 15 years ago. Now, we’re able to offer 3D and 4D versions, which is a first for me. The experience is going to be totally different, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the audience responds on November 14th.
Bolly UK Media: With the “clan of fire” concept, it really does sound like this Diwali is coming twice for us this year! The fan events leading up to the release have shown just how much love and excitement is out there for this film. It must be incredible to witness the ocean of fans who come out to see you. When you’re reading a script, do you get a sense that certain scenes will create those “goosebumps moments” for audiences? Or is that something that just happens naturally?
Suriya: I owe so much to my directors and producers who, over the last 27 years, have given me the chance to be a part of timeless films. As an actor, you feel a sense of responsibility to give something meaningful, something that’s going to endure and make the experience worthwhile. Some fans travel a long way just to come to the theater, and for families, it can be a big outing. You want them to have a complete, fulfilling experience. That’s why we’ve put in two years and about 175 days of filming—so it will truly be an experience for them.
This film has been a true collaboration between people who’ve come up through cinematography, so it’s definitely a visual treat. And yes, as you said, here’s hoping November 14th will be another Diwali celebration for us all! Thank you for the good wishes.
