Taapsee Pannu is all ready to race right into the hearts of Indian fans with RASHMI ROCKET, which will premiere on ZEE5 on Dussehra, October 15th, and is produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Mango People Media.
RASHMI ROCKET, directed by Akarsh Khurana, is based on an original narrative by Nanda Periyasamy and tells the story of a little girl who comes from a small hamlet but is endowed with an immensely enormous gift.
The billboard provides fans a little peek at the action-packed story that awaits them, and Taapsee is the epitome of grit and resolve. The plot revolves around ‘Rocket,’ who finally gets the chance to realize her dream and compete professionally, only to discover that the sprint to the finish line is fraught with obstacles. What appears to be an athletic challenge becomes a personal war for her respect, honor, and perhaps her very identity.
RASHMI ROCKET is written by Nanda Periyasamy, Aniruddha Guha, and Kanika Dhillon and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Neha Anand, and Pranjal Khandhdiya. It also stars Supriya Pathak, Abhishek Banerjee, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Supriya Pigeon.
“We are extremely delighted to present yet another blockbuster movie to our worldwide viewers with Rashmi Rocket,” says Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 Global. In keeping with our mission to provide stories that are grounded in truth, here is a story about the gender difference in athletics. We are thrilled to have worked with RSVP and Mango People Media to bring this tale of grit and drive to live and share it with our global audiences.”
Akarsh Khurana, the filmmaker, adds, “I’ve always enjoyed courtroom dramas, adult romances, and sports films as a viewer. I’ve always been fascinated by characters on journeys, both exterior, and interior, as a storyteller. This film provided me with the one-of-a-kind and thrilling chance to work on something with all of these components, as well as a wonderful cast of actors.”
“I’ve always loved stories of the underdog and unsung heroes, and what’s fascinating about RASHMI ROCKET’S story is that it’s not just about her journey as an athlete, but the human drama that unfolds in her life, which makes it so much more layered and different from regular athlete stories,” says RSVP’s Ronnie Screwvala. Our collaboration with ZEE5 will ensure that the film reaches every part of the globe. This is an important tale that everyone should hear.”
“Everyone is talking about the problems encountered by female athletes, but are we talking about it enough?” asks Pranjal Khandhdiya of Mango People Media. RASHMI ROCKET really confronts misogyny in athletics and digs into the obstacles that stand in the way of medals.”
